January 2016 Newsletter

Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends,

It’s 2016! Can’t believe how time flies. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and we are glad to see all of you back again. We had a wonderful ending to 2015. We were really proud of how awesome the Winter Program was this year and how much fun the children had performing for all of us. Special thanks to Marv Zwart of Lincoln Avenue Community Church for helping us with sound. Thank you Aree, Sarah’s mom, for your help with the stage setup and again providing the beautiful backdrop for our show. We can’t wait for the Spring Sing.

STOP, LOOK, LISTEN PROJECT

On Tuesday, March 1, you are invited to have your preschooler screened for vision and hearing needs with no cost to you. You will receive a copy of the screening results. Please complete the permission form sent home. This free screening is provided by the Upland Foothill Kiwanis, Upland Host Lions, San Antonio Regional Hospital, A local dentist, and the nursing department of California Baptist University.

TRIKE-A-THON

On March 11, 2016 we will be having our 3rd Annual Trike-a-Thon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Our last event took place on the morning of February 6, 2013. Our school raised $2,026 for the children of SJCRH. Our kids really enjoyed bringing their vehicles, both riding and pushing toys, to raise money for other kids, they were really proud of themselves. This is part of our mission to be an integral part of the community where our children are aware of others and are willing to give a hand to help each other. We will be sending more information out about this next month. We are so excited once again to be a part of this great cause and to make a difference in the community.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKS

We are doing a Scholastic Reading Club book order again this month. We have added over a hundred books to our library in the 3 months we have offered this program. This months’ orders are due by Friday, January 29th. You may turn in a check with the order form or use the activation code to purchase books online. Thank you so much for your continued participation and support of this program.

EXTRA CURRICULAR CLASSES

We are offering Soccer Shots, Petite Feet Dance Company and Art Classes again this semester. Dance is on Mondays, Art is on Tuesdays, and Soccer is Thursdays (soccer for only 10 weeks starting 1/21) each week except for when holidays conflict and classes are prorated or rescheduled. Please see the office for more information and sign up forms.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

We are continuing to collect Box Tops for Education. We did submit our Box Tops in November and just received a check for $83.00. Please go to Boxtops4education.com for more information about participating products. Please bring your Box Tops to the office or leave it with your child’s teacher. Each Box Top is worth $.10 and can help us reach our fundraising goals. We have raised about $900 so far this year.

JACKETS

As the weather gets colder and wetter, we have a few reminders about your child’s jacket. Thank you for making sure your child’s jacket is taken home each day. The coat rack can get full and be difficult for the children to identify their own belongings.  As part of our curriculum we are trying to help the children go from a dependent to independent state. We would like your support by allowing your child to hang up and collect their own jacket. Since everyone is bringing jackets daily we are doing lessons to help them become proficient in putting on, taking off, hanging up and taking their jacket off of the hanger.

Additionally, I have read several articles about jackets and car seat safety. Bulky jackets add slack and children have come out of their seatbelts during accidents on occasion. Please go to http://csftl.org/hello-winter-good-bye-coats/ for more information about jackets and their effect on child seat safety.

EMERGENCY KIT UPDATES

It is time to update disaster and emergency supplies again.  You will be receiving a pink note listing the items needing to be replaced.  Please bring in the items requested so that we can return the original items to you.

Thank you!
